Native Renewables Energy Summit - Solutions For Tribes & Cities
November 15-17, 2005

Core Message: Tribes and Cities can help each other

At a time when the government in Washington is frozen in polarized positions, it becomes all the more important for progressive forces to find new goals and rallying grounds at the state, local & tribal levels. Supporting Native Renewables both in capital markets and for local “healthy” community development will do just that. With Green Tags and Renewable Energy Credits, Native Renewables projects can generate immediate financial rewards to revitalize Native economies. In the long run, they offer Tribes a way to invest wisely in sustainable economic development. For towns & cities, Native Renewables offer clean electricity to mitigate air pollution and climate change.

Topics to Include:

Day 1, Tuesday November 15, 2005
  • Conclave of Tribal and City Leadership for Sustainability

  • Hosted by DCIAmerica and Intertribal COUP
    3:00 to 6:30 PM
In advance of the Native Renewables Energy Summit and the upcoming Montreal Conference of the Parties on the Kyoto Protocol, a Working Session will be held for Cities and Tribes to explore ways to collaborate as local governments with front-line responsibilities to address global warming through energy efficiency and renewable energy strategies.

How might Tribes join with the ICLEI Cities and with the U.S. Conference of Mayors in the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement.?

How might U.S. Cities join with Tribes in recharging the Federal Energy Grids with renewable energy to displace carbon based electricity on the grid?

Randy Udall, Community Office for Resource Efficiency (CORE), will present a unique perspective on the End of Oil.

A press release will be developed announcing the intention of Cities and Tribes to collaborate to address global warming.

A dinner for participants will follow at the Mercury Café.
