Seventh Annual Aboriginal Membership Conference May 13-14, 2008
Membership is more important to a First Nation, Tribe, Band, Native Hawaiians, and today, Aboriginal Communities in Australia, than ever before. All over the
world, membership is becoming the most fundamentally important issue with native peoples; a necessity in order to protect not just their rights, but their
cultural identity as well.
Canadian First Nations still have many roadblocks preventing them from true membership sovereignty, but there are ways to utilize the tools available today to
mitigate those roadblocks and develop a fair and balanced membership system. The first step is to understand what the issues are, and what may be done about
them.
DCIAmerica has developed this new agenda to help face some of those realities and to develop a membership code and a membership and enrollment system that
promotes fairness, while emphasizing tribal sovereignty.
